In any creative endeavor or goal pursuit, success depends on knowing what to include as well as what to exclude.

There’s a skill in being able to separate what you should be focusing on now and what you shouldn’t.

Enter Sturgeon’s Law.

Back in the 1950s, American science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon famously said “90% of everything is crud” when defending widespread criticism against science fiction.

Fast-forward to our modern high-tech, content-on-demand world, Sturgeon was indeed onto something.

For example, Sturgeon’s Law would suggest that 90% of the estimated 2,000,000+ books published each year in the US alone are crap.

Forget crap, how many are actually worth reading?

How many hours do we waste scrolling through nonsense on social media?

Of the emails in your inbox right now, how many will you actually open?

14,000 plus titles on Netflix, and it takes longer to sift through the “crap” than to actually watch the dam thing.
